PROGRAM DETAILS
Our Reggio inspired, play-based, emergent child care centre offers full time programs to children 0-5 years of age. Research shows that children learn best through play. Children will spend their days here making choices, exploring, discovering and creating. Through play children learn about themselves and the world around them. We view children as competent, curious, capable and full of potential. We understand that children have a need and desire to connect to the world around them and to establish meaningful relationships with others. Our center has been created with the premise that the environment acts as the “third teacher” in the lives of children. Our classrooms and outdoor space have been intentionally designed and organized to provide various spaces for children to create, to learn and to explore.
The Learning Academy follows an emergent curriculum which develops from exploring what is relevant, interesting and personally meaningful to children. Planning and recording the learning experiences that develop from children’s budding interests, passions, strengths and needs is an important part of teachers’ intentional teaching practices. The topics of interest that emerge are often linked to children’s play, their experiences at home, a community event, and priorities that emerge from conversations between children; children and teachers; and teachers, parents and other partners.
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”
– Fred Rogers
