Families are often so busy these days that it is hard to make time for swimming lessons after school or on the weekends.  Our swim program is run during our operating hours, so children enrolled in our childcare centre do not need parents to attend. We also find this helps children to concentrate and really focus on their swimming. All swimming lessons will take place at our facility this summer. Lessons will be taught by a certified lifeguard/swim instructor, and will run between 12:30-5:00pm. We hope to offer lessons from June 12-September 1, weather permitting! Lessons will run for 30 minutes and be offered as a private session or semi private session. Children must sign up for one week of lessons at a time.

Lesson Structure

Children must complete at least five lessons in order to be properly evaluated. Lessons will be one on one with the instructor, and children will learn about water orientation and safety, along with swimming skills such as floats, glides, bubbles, submerging, and just being comfortable in the water! We have experience teaching both the Red Cross and Lifesaving programs.

Pricing Structure

Private One-on-One Lessons - $35 per lesson

Semi Private Lessons for Two Children - $25 per lesson

FOR CHILDREN ENROLLED IN OUR EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM

How will it work?

Children enrolled in swimming lessons and in our childcare centre, will get changed in their classroom and head outside with the instructor. No need for parents to attend the lesson or get their child dressed, as we have allowed time in between each lesson to dry off, return to the room, get dressed and back into play! Swimming times will be arranged by The Learning Academy based on your child’s in class schedule. For example, if your child does not nap, they will be placed into one of the time slots during our rest time.

If the weather or pool temperature is unfavourable, we will reschedule or adjust our own schedule to ensure that your child is able to get in the pool that week. If we are unable to make up the lesson that week, we will reschedule for a later date. We will send a notification on HiMama to let you know of the cancellation and when we plan to dive in again. Fees are not adjusted, refunded or credited for statutory holidays, absence due to illness or withdrawal without proper notice or for any other reason.

If your child attends part time, you will be required to bring them to their lessons dressed and ready to swim! We do have a changeroom in the pool shed, and the instructor can take them inside to use the bathroom after their lesson if needed.

What do we bring?

Parents are asked to pack their child’s swimsuit and towel for the week. We will hang them to dry and leave it in their cubby, and return it on a Friday, or when lessons are complete. Parents MUST apply sunscreen on their child every morning, and sunscreen purchased for children at The Learning Academy will be applied (unless you wish to provide your own.) It is strongly encouraged that children wear a rash guard to protect from the sun, as well as a sun hat that covers their face and neck if possible. Children who are not potty trained must bring swim diapers.

Swimming FAQ

Soap will be available at the shower.

Parents are welcome to drop their child off and/or stay for the lesson as long as your child is comfortable. Sometimes if a child is upset it is easier when parents leave the deck. The instructors may ask you to leave and come back if necessary.

Please apply sunscreen prior to the lesson. We do have a shady spot on the deck for parents to sit.

Washroom facilities are available if needed. Children will be brought inside by the instructor to use the accessible washroom in the preschool room.

Children should come to the pool in their bathing suit. We do have a change room available in the pool shed if needed.

You will receive a paper report card at the end of the 5 lessons.

If your child has diarrhea they cannot attend swimming lessons for two weeks.

If your child has any open sores or a communicable disease they are not permitted into the pool. Please notify us as soon as possible.

You will be notified via phone if the lesson is cancelled due to weather.

How to enter the pool

There is one parking space in the alleyway between Catherine and Johnston Ave. or you may park out front on Waterloo Street and walk down the alley. The entrance to the pool is the second gate furthest from the building. Please make sure that the gate latches properly when you enter and exit. You are responsible for your child until their lesson begins and the instructor has taken them into the pool. Any other siblings that attend must be supervised by a parent and or guardian at all times.
